Dave was born in Halifax, and after a brief stint in Cold Lake, was raised in Edmonton living in Belmead, Jasper Place and Millwoods. Deb moved to Edmonton from Vancouver in 2003, and after meeting Dave, they married and moved to a condo in Oliver.
When they started shopping for a house, they looked for a neighbourhood with an active community league. They made the decision in 2006 to buy their home (the former Yearwood residence) after sitting outside the North Glenora Community League, on a bench dedicated to Dave Yearwood, enjoying the park where they imagined their son and future children playing.
Dave started Community League events such as Pub Night and Kids Movie Night. They and their children, along with many others, have contributed to the success of various events including Community League Day, and Halloween and New Year’s Eve family parties - always happy to put up or take down decorations, cook turkeys, clear plates, and push a broom.
Currently, their children are involved in hockey and regularly have to be at all ends of the city - but luckily North Glenora is a great pivot point in all directions. North Glenora’s location provides easy bike rides to the River Valley & downtown, a quick walk to the Telus World of Science and Peter Hemingway Rec Centre, and a short walk/drive to restaurants and shops at Westmount Mall and trendy 124 Street.
The neighbourhood holds many memories for the family, including pre-school with Teacher Maria, first day of school at Coronation, and first soccer games with Timbits soccer - to fun times at the Green Shack, trick or treating, sledding down the hill by the hall, Easter egg hunts - to camping trips with a group of North Glenora residents and walks through the neighbourhood - knocking on doors to have a quick chat and hug with longtime friends and neighbours. It’s been an absolute joy for Dave and Deb to watch their neighbours’ friends’ children grow up to be wonderful young adults, and they know that joy is reciprocated with their kids.
In sum, the Salmon family gives North Glenora an enthusiastic two thumbs up!
