In 2010, Dr. Adrian Wagg, his then wife, and their two children Matthew and Helena moved to Laurier Heights from London, England as Adrian was taking a position as Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta.
Moving to Canada was a large change for the family, so initially they rented to get a feel for Edmonton. The children settled into school, and the family soon became a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Adrian in particular, embraced the cold Alberta winters by walking to work, taking up skiing and ice-fishing.
Laurier offered proximity to the children’s schools, the University, Edmonton Valley Zoo, and both Hawrelak and Buena Vista parks. Since travel is a large part of their lives, easy access to the airport was also a bonus.
The family enjoyed the home and its garden, but in 2015, decided to buy a house, finding a beautiful home in nearby Parkview. As the children were now attending university and high school, quick access to a bus was very handy. They also now enjoyed being walking distance to Valleyview Shopping Centre. The new home also provided a new opportunity for their gardening talents - and they enjoyed having a place to call their own.
Following the initial adjustment to life in Canada, Matthew and Helena became very successful. Matthew pursued a Bachelor of Arts and then a Bachelor of Education at University of Alberta, and is now an elementary school teacher at Crawford Plains. Helena pursued a Bachelor of Architecture at University of Toronto, and is starting a Masters in Architecture program at the Glasgow School of Arts in Scotland in September 2020.
Adrian has since remarried, and he and his wife enjoy the mature neighbourhood and easy access to parks. Adrian has also taken up long distance running, and particularly enjoys access to the local running trails where he trains for half-marathons.
The Wagg family highly recommends the neighbourhoods of both Laurier and Parkview, for their proximity to downtown and greenspace, beautiful homes and friendly neighbours.
